Each and every time I had something to say about anything on this blog, I have done my best to remain “professional” throughout the entire post – an attempt which, obviously, failed. This time, given the level of excitement the news I’m about to share have brought me at, my attempts to become a good reviewer will also fail, so let me tell you something: because of them, I’m quite literally in seventh heaven by now. Nothing can bring me down~!
The first piece of news is about “Kimi ni Todoke”. Some may know it from a previous post, as one of my favourite manga, but unless you have read it for yourself, I’m sure you wouldn’t understand the greatness of it. Well, it was decided that a movie based on the manga series will be released on September, 25, starring Miura Haruma (Koizora, Gokusen 3) and Mikako Tabe (Yamada Tarou Monogatari).
Kimi ni Todoke is the story of Kuronuma Sawako (Mikako Tabe), a high-school student with an appearance so gloomy that her classmates call her Sadako (the character from the 1998 horror movie, the “Ring”). Her life changes drastically though when her popular classmate, Shota Kazehaya (Miura Haruma), with a refreshing and gentle personality, begins to talk to her. Sawako finds the courage to do things she never dared to before, and becomes more and more grateful to him – but as time passes, unaware of it, her gratitude becomes budding feelings of love.
I was honestly happy when I coincidentally discovered that Miura Haruma was casted as Kazehaya, because honestly, if anyone could pull off the character’s personality perfectly, than that would be him. I first found out there would be a movie based on the manga, and when looking for the trailer, I saw him in it. I jumped so high in my seat, that I hit the keyboard and almost caused it to fall! Great way to surprise and make a girl faint at the same time, really. I can barely wait to see it! (I don’t think I will be able to wait for someone to sub it…I’m not that patient!)
The second piece of news I want to share regards another up-and-coming Japanese movie, Kimi ga Odoru, Natsu, starring Junpei Mizobata (BOSS, Akai Ito) and Haruka Kinami, an actress I really should find more about. The film follows the story of Shinpei (Mizobata Junpei), an aspiring photographer, who leaves his hometown to move to Tokyo to follow his dreams. After his departure, his former girlfriend Kaori (Minami Haruka) discovers his little sister, Sakura’s (Ayane Omori), terminal illness, which leaves it up to Shinpei to fulfill her dream of dancing in the upcoming Yosakoi festival. It’s a movie I truly look forward to, for various reasons.
One of the the things I look forward to in Kimi ga Odoru, Natsu is Junpei’s acting. He first caught my eye in an interview, mostly because of his easy speech: unlike some of his counterparts, he talks about whatever easily, and gives interesting answers, which makes me think he might be a great partner in a conversation (okay, I’m lying – the main reason is his smile, which turns me into a blushing blob). Afterward, to satisfy my curiosity, I watched his dramas, Akai Ito and BOSS. This is probably because the other actors and actresses were also very good, but I found his acting brilliantly realistic and enjoyed the story very much. I watched both of them with high expectations, and I am proud to say I was not disappointed at all – I hope this movie will not disappoint either.
Another thing I look forward to is the movie theme, sung by one of my favourite bands, DBSK (or Tohoshinki, as they are known in Japan). It is titled “With All My Heart ~ Kimi ga Odoru, Natsu”, and it is their first theme song for a Japanese live-action movie, despite having provided a tune for last year’s movie “Subaru”. Why is this song so important to me? Because it is probably one of the last song they created and sung together before their official disbandment. Honestly, I feel like crying when I hear it – I mean, I will never hear them sing new songs together, you know! – but I am really happy that new music they created even now, after the “great disaster” as I call it, is still featured on television (it’s like receiving one last letter from a dead person I loved – creepy, but it’s how it feels like).
I feel awful when I remember that I have to wait a long time in order to be able to see these movies (First, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and now this? Seriously?!), but I guess I can force myself to wait just a little bit more! I can’t wait!
